Humans of Jacobs: Paula Cendoya

This month, the Jacobs Blog would like to introduce you to Paula Cendoya from Argentina. She is a Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology expected to graduate in May 2021.

Paula came to Jacobs University because she wanted to complete her undergraduate studies abroad and was very interested in the lab work experience Jacobs offers to its students. Moreover, she thinks Germany is the right place to study in that field considering that the country is in leading positions in drug design and development. She shares that “with these facts in mind, choosing Jacobs was an easy decision”.

Paula is in the third year and soon to graduate from university, which could be a busy time for some students. She shares that she mostly spends her time in the lab but does not regret it. “My thesis topic is very interesting, and I am getting a lot of first-hand experience carrying out research under the guidance of my professors.” During her free time, she likes to go for a run either alone or in a group to put her mind at ease. And recently she started cooking more frequently with her friends, but still believes that there’s space for improvement in her skills. “I enjoy eating whatever my friends cook or bake”, she laughs.

Looking back, Paula thinks that she should have attended more events in her two prior years in the university. As of now, the measures are stricter, and most events have been canceled. However, she takes the time to go outdoors and find new running routes. She recommends the lake near Burg, which “is a must go for all the students spending their summer in Bremen.” About her future, Paula prefers to not make any rigid plans and see how things turn out. She hopes that she will be working in a lab after her studies.
