Where are our 2019 Jacobs Grads going?

Tabea Kohrs | BA Psychology | Germany

Tabea Kohrs (Germany) | Class of 2019

Where are you from?

I’m from Germany. From Lüneburger Heide.

What are you doing after graduation?

I’ll be interning at a governmental institution in Germany in the Human Resources Department to get some more practical work experience over summer. Afterwards I’m moving to Scotland to do my Masters in International HR Management at the University of Edinburgh. I’m really excited for what’s to come but I know I’ll definitely return to Jacobs to visit.

Why did you choose Jacobs University?

I went to high school in Germany and did Abitur. I chose Jacobs for multiple reasons, most importantly the international focus but also the beautiful campus and broad academic opportunities.

Bersal williams | BSc Biochemistry and cell biology | Zimbabwe/Portugal

Bersal Williams (Zimbabwe/Portugal) | Class of 2019

Where are you from?

Zimbabwe/Portugal. My family moved around quite a lot when I was growing up and I've lived in New Zealand and in England for some time but I've spent most of my life in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. My mom’s side of the family is from Portugal.

What are you doing after graduation?

I’m going to start my accelerated PhD at Cambridge in Clinical Neurosciences.

Why did you choose Jacobs University?

I went to high school in Bulawayo and I did A Levels. I chose Jacobs because they offered a program that I was interested in and, thanks to my scholarship, at an affordable price. The idea of studying in Germany was also attractive and exciting. I was also drawn to it because of the degree of diversity.

Anuka Pokharel | BA Global Economics and Management | Nepal

Anuka Pokharel (Nepal) | Class of 2019

Where are you from?

I’m from Nepal.

What are you doing after graduation?

I am moving to Munich, and I will be working at the Tech Recruitment department for Flixbus, the German intercity coach service company.

Why did you choose Jacobs University?

I went to high school in Kathmandu, Nepal and did A Levels. I chose Jacobs because I was very sure about studying abroad. I was open to going wherever life took me, to be honest, but Jacobs turned out to be everything I was looking for. I wanted a small school, an international school, and something that made you feel part of a community, and Jacobs was exactly that.

Valerie Cyrkel | BA Integrated Social Sciences | USA/Germany

Valerie Cyrkel (USA/Germany) | Class of 2019

Where are you from?

I’m German American, but I grew up in the US, in Florida.

What are you doing after graduation?

I will be teaching English here in Germany during the summer, and then I plan on traveling for the rest of the year! I hope to go to Australia and New Zealand to travel and volunteer. Then I plan on finding a job in Germany.

Why did you choose Jacobs University?

I went to high school in Florida. I chose Jacobs because I wanted a different experience than the typical one offered at American universities. I wanted to study in an international environment where I could learn not only from professors, but also from the students around me.

Regina Velázquez Toscano | BSc Industrial Engineering and Management | Mexico

Regina Velázquez (Mexico) | Class of 2019

Where are you from?

I am from Monterrey, Mexico’s industrial capital.

What are you doing after graduation?

I will be going to art school in Berlin for an international photography program. During that time I will also be working (freelance photography and also hopefully a part-time job or an internship in the field of e-commerce). I will also take advantage of this time to apply for graduate programs in Europe.

Why did you choose Jacobs University?

I went to an American high school in Monterrey, where I had the chance to take multiple AP classes. I chose Jacobs because it was exactly what I was looking for: a small, friendly community with challenging academics and extremely high diversity.
