Constructor Talks Podcast: CU alum and leadership expert Anna Ladyshenski on AI literacy and personal growth
What do tech startups, artificial intelligence, and the art scene have in common? According to Constructor University alum and partner at a major tech executive recruitment agency Anna Ladyshenski, they are all helping to shape the modern definition of leadership. In the latest episode of Constructor Talks—the podcast that goes behind the scenes of science, business, and innovation—guest host Ilya Kompasov, Head of Alumni and Career Services, sat down with the Hamburg-based tech headhunter to discuss the future of the job market, the phenomenon of micromanagement, and the art of combining performance with humanity.
Paradoxically, Anna's own career began with a perceived failure: she failed her probation period in her very first job in finance. Instead of giving up, she used this setback as fuel for growth. She switched to the tech sector, made it her goal to become one of the top performers of the year, and consistently learned from her mistakes. Today, she works at the intersection of technology, leadership, and people. Ladyshenski is fascinated by the endless versatility of the tech industry, especially the blockchain space, a relatively small community that has given her the opportunity to connect with thought leaders, top level founders and builders alike. In her daily work as a headhunter, she relies primarily on psychology, intuition, and active listening to understand what truly drives people.
A central theme of the conversation was the unstoppable impact of AI on tech hiring. Despite widespread fear among programmers of being replaced by AI, Ladyshenski offered reassurance: “Roles will instead shift toward quality management to check if AI is doing a good job at coding. It's always about adaptability," she explained with respect to the changing job market. Just as the headhunting industry survived the introduction of social media, the tech world will transform. AI literacy is rapidly evolving into a form of general human capital relevant to everyone in the job market.
The dynamics of modern leadership were also explored in depth. While respect and trust from managers form a non-negotiable foundation for her, Ladyshenski shed new light on a frequently criticized concept: micromanagement. She believes closer management can actually be necessary in certain career phases, as a tool to unlock outstanding performance. “Micromanagement can be good in the right context and dose. However, it should never reflect a lack of trust but show that they care to make a person better,” explained Ladyshenski. For aspiring leaders, she also offered a warning: leadership roles should always be chosen from a genuine place of passion rather than societal pressure or the next logical step in one's career.
Outside of the corporate world, Ladyshenski explained how she draws significant strength from art. While a corporate career is driven by forecasting and hard goals, art is about going with the flow without knowing the final destination. This duality is reflected in her philosophy of ideal leadership, where traditionally masculine traits (performance, goals) and feminine traits (retention, long-term engagement) harmoniously co-exist. “There needs to be a balance between bringing people to perform and making the journey fun,” she said.
The episode concludes with honest advice for students and young professionals to work on real skills alongside building a digital network, e.g. on LinkedIn. The advice she would give her younger self seems refreshingly human: "Chill more, you will find your way."
