The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) award is given annually by Constructor University to the student who best exemplifies excellence in academic achievements and outstanding commitment to social engagement. Electrical Engineering PhD researcher Ehsan Olyaei Torshizi was presented with the prestigious honor at the Constructor Career Symposium 2025 earlier this fall. Constructor University Professor of Electrical Engineering Dr. Werner Henkel nominated Torshizi on the strength of his academic record, prolific research contributions and positive leadership role in the student community.

Since joining Constructor University as a PhD researcher, Torshizi has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed and under-review publications. He has also supported the research community in turn through peer reviewing activities for academic journals and serving on the Technical Program Committee for IEEE PIMRC 2025. Torshizi will begin teaching courses at Constructor University in 2026.

Originally from Iran, Torshizi has been a positive presence and valuable mentor among Constructor’s international student body, modeling respect, inclusion and collaboration. He has demonstrated an active interest in the academic and personal growth of his colleagues by contributing to university-led workshops, offering training and guiding students new to the German academic system. “His openness to different perspectives, along with a respectful and collegial attitude, contributes to the international character of the academic community,” said Professor Henkel.

The prestigious DAAD prize is synonymous with character and excellence in and out of the classroom and has been awarded to international students at German institutions for over a decade. With a 1000 EUR prize, the award targets individuals with extraordinary academics and social engagement, with just one student selected per institution, per year.

Constructor University extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ehsan Olyaei Torshizi on achieving this milestone and wishes him continued success in both his academic and community endeavors.
