Constructor University saw continued growth and innovation throughout 2023, thus cementing its status as a global leader in higher education. As one of Europe’s most international institutions, the university furthered its commitment to academic excellence, diversity and strategic global partnerships. From student enrollment and academic programs to international collaborations, CU maintained its upward trajectory. This is the first Annual Report from Constructor University since the 2023 rebranding. We look forward to keeping everyone up to date with university developments in a timely manner in the future.

International Outreach: Expanding Global Impact
Launching in April 2023, the International Outreach Department aims to enhance the university's global presence. Leading the department is Prof. Dr. Thomas Auf der Heyde as Vice President of International Outreach and Managing Director. Key initiatives include strategic roadshows to engage German embassies, DAAD offices, universities, and business entities in selected countries. These roadshows serve as dynamic platforms for showcasing academic programs, forging collaborations, and expanding the university’s international profile. Prof. Auf der Heyde brings extensive experience in science and university administration to this role, having previously served as Deputy Director General of the South African Department of Science and Technology. His leadership has been instrumental in securing strategic partnerships and complementing student recruitment efforts.

Enrollment: A Diverse and Growing Community
In Fall 2023, Constructor University welcomed a total enrollment of 1,823 students, including 672 first-year students. The university's internationally diverse student body remains a defining feature, with 31%, 28% and 25% hailing of “Freshies” hailing from Eastern Europe, Asia and Western Europe respectively. This international makeup underscores Constructor University’s role as a hub for cross-cultural education and collaboration.

Master's and Undergrad Programs
CU’s Master’s programs saw total enrollment increase to 262 up from 232 the previous year. The Master of Science programs, including advanced software technology, computer science & software engineering and data science for society and business, primarily drove this increase, as total enrollment shot up to 203 from 148. CU’s undergraduate enrollment remained stable with 1,285 students enrolled, reflecting consistent interest in Constructor University’s varied degree programs on offer.

Scholarships and Financial Support
Constructor University expanded its scholarship opportunities in 2023, welcoming 54 new students through external and internal partnerships, including a five year agreement with German NGO “SOS Kinderdörfer weltweit,” scholarships for international PhD students through the Wolfgang Ritter Foundation, 5 scholarships to mathematics students by Sparkasse Bremen, as well as ten scholarships awarded to Ukrainian students thanks to the generous contribution from an external donor. These initiatives underscore Constructor University’s commitment to fostering talent and reducing financial barriers for students worldwide.

Revenue breakdown 2023
Constructor University adopted a balanced approach in terms of revenue distribution for 2023. Institution grants, as well as funding from research and knowledge transfer activities accounted for nearly 55% of total funding -- testament to the exceptional research our faculty continues to produce and our international standing. A further 38% stemmed from undergraduate tuition, while the remaining revenue was derived from graduate programs, donations, online education and executive education measures. This balanced model ensures the university can continue to invest in academic excellence and global partnerships, while continuing to attract the global leaders of tomorrow.
