The independent university ranking U-Multirank, initiated by the European Commission, evaluates more than 1,700 universities from over 90 countries. In the latest evaluation, Jacobs University achieved top ratings, among other things, for its international orientation, for adherence to the standard period of study, for its achievements in research and knowledge transfer, and for the regional engagement of its students.

This year's U-Multirank evaluated subjects from geoscience, political science and economics. Jacobs University, an English-speaking institution, is represented in the ranking with the Bachelor's degree programs "Earth and Environmental Sciences", "International Relations: Politics and History", "Global Economics and Management" and "International Business Administration" as well as with the Master's program "International Relations", a joint program between Jacobs University and the University of Bremen. The performance of the universities was compared in the five categories teaching and learning, research, knowledge transfer, international orientation and regional engagement.

Jacobs University, where more than 1,500 students from over 120 nations live, learn and conduct research together, scored very well, especially regarding the international orientation of its study programs. Top marks were also awarded for the large proportion of students who adhered to the standard period of study. In 2019, 89 percent of all Bachelor's students completed their studies within the stipulated three years.

In the category of regional engagement, Jacobs University achieved top results for the rooting of its students in the region: Many of the Bachelor's and Master's students gain a professional foothold in the Bremen area immediately after graduation. "Over 80 percent of our students move to Germany to study at Jacobs University. We are of course delighted that they feel at home here and it is a strategic concern of ours that their expertise makes a positive long-term contribution to the region," says Thomas Auf der Heyde, Provost of the international University in northern Bremen.

Evidence of Jacobs University's research strength is the count of research funds raised by the scientists. U-Multirank awarded an excellent rating to Jacobs University for this. In the knowledge transfer category, among others, the publications carried out jointly with industrial partners were given the highest marks.

U-Multirank is one of the largest and most comprehensive rankings in the world. It allows users to create their own personalized ranking based on individual performance indicators. In the CHE-Ranking 2020, Germany's most important university ranking, Jacobs University had already achieved excellent results with its economics study programs.
