Prof. Dr. Jakob Suchan
My research lies in the intersection of AI, Computer Vision, and Human-Centred Computing. In particular, I am interested in how we can develop general methods and tools that enable autonomous systems to abstract, understand, reason about, and learn from multimodal (human) Interactions, with the aim to assist humans in their everyday personal and professional tasks.
From a technical point of view this includes for instance:
- Commonsense Abstractions of Space and Motion
- Declarative Reasoning and Learning about Visuospatial Dynamics
- Neurosymbolic Integration of AI and Vision
- Visual Perception (e.g., involving eye-tracking)
I lead a growing research group in Artificial Visuospatial Intelligence at Constructor University. The group brings together doctoral research with Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis projects and provides a collaborative environment for developing new methods, conducting experiments, and preparing scientific publications.
PhD Researcher
Salim Baloch works on neurosymbolic visual commonsense, investigating how vision-language models and computer vision can be combined with declarative knowledge representation and reasoning to construct, refine, and interpret structured models of visual scenes.
Student Research and Supervision
Student research is an integral part of the group’s activities. I supervised more than 30 Bachelor’s theses and more than 10 Master’s theses across artificial intelligence, computer vision, robotics, human–robot interaction, and human-centred computing.
The group’s activities build on and contribute to research conducted within the international CoDesign Lab, particularly its work on Cognitive Vision and Perception. This collaboration supports scientific exchange and joint research across artificial intelligence, spatial cognition, visual perception, and human-centred computing.
