IJCAI-ECAI 2026: Constructor University at the world’s leading AI conference
The International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence and the European Conference on Artificial Intelligence come to Bremen from August 15 to 21, 2026. IJCAI-ECAI is one of the most established gatherings in artificial intelligence research, and this year it takes place on our doorstep.
Researchers from Constructor University contribute across the program, from organizing a full-day workshop on AI for democratic decision-making to running a diversity and inclusion activity built around networking and open debate. Below is where to find our people during the conference week.

Beyond the AI Bubble: Inclusion, Networking, and the Future of AI
Diversity and inclusion activity, Sunday, August 16, 2026, afternoon, University of Bremen campus
Organized by Prof. Dr. Mariana Macedo and Prof. Dr. Hilke Brockmann
The session combines speed networking for early-career researchers — ten five-minute conversations, with an optional matching form for those who want to be paired by research interest — with the panel discussion “Future Perfect? Pros and Cons of AI” on the role of diversity and inclusion in science and AI development, addressing how to build AI systems that are inclusive, transparent, responsible and accessible. Open to all IJCAI-ECAI participants.

Augmented Democracies: AI for Civic Engagement and Democratic Decision-Making
Full-day workshop, Monday, August 17, 2026, GW2, Room B3010, University of Bremen campus
A full-day workshop bringing together researchers from artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, political science and digital democracy practice, on how AI can support democratic deliberation, civic engagement and inclusive political participation at scale. The workshop is built around what democratic theory calls the deliberative trilemma: the difficulty of achieving broad participation, high-quality deliberation and political equality at the same time. The morning covers invited talks and paper presentations, the afternoon four parallel design studios, a synthesis session, and a closing panel.
Workshops and tutorials, August 15 to 17: University of Bremen (Zentralbereich), Bibliothekstraße 1, 28359 Bremen. Both Constructor University activities take place here.
Main conference, August 18 to 21: Congress Centrum Bremen, Findorffstraße 101, 28215 Bremen.
