Located in the heart of the city, it cannot be missed if one decides to check it out. Taking a bus or a tram is easy, as the final destination is also named ‘Bürgerpark’. The place is also referred to as ‘Bremen’s green lungs’ since it consists of more than 200 hectares of green space. Once there, it is hard to not be impressed with the beautiful green scenery and their collection of animals. The park is financed solely by donations which help preserve the diversity, take care of the animals, and keep the activities possible (boat renting, the Finnbahn, playgrounds, and more).
The largest continuous park in Bremen is worth seeing during all parts of the year. One can enjoy a nice picnic, go for a jog or just see the animals in the zoo. Entrance is free and there are small ways one can help while being in the area. There are multiple places where one can drop off different nuts that would be used to feed the animals, besides, one can donate or attend their annual Bürgerpark raffle. The visitors are encouraged to enjoy nature without destroying it, as this park has been present since the 19 century and pretty well preserved. Interestingly, some of the sculptures and monuments present are more than 130 years old.
The Jacobs campus has many green places where one can spend a lovely time enjoying nature. As students usually live in the ‘bubble’ of the university, one can easily forget that Bremen also has many places worth seeing, which are easy to reach with the semester ticket. One of the main Bremen attractions is the Bürgerpark park.
