The Rotaract Club of Jacobs University Bremen calls upon students, staff, faculty and the local neighbors to take part in this semester’s blood drive. Anyone who would like to donate blood is welcome. Doctors will be present on the day and will consult with each potential donor on the feasibility of his or her donation.

Anyone who would like to donate blood is welcome. Doctors will be present on the day and will consult with each potential donor on the feasibility of his or her donation.
Donating blood will take one hour, including a restorative snack. Donors need to be between 18 and 60 years of age. All potential blood donors are asked to bring their identity cards along and – if available – their blood donation documents. Donators do not need to register beforehand but can just drop by. Because blood cannot be generated artificially, donations are urgently needed for treatment of ill and injured people across the country.
The equivalent of 15.000 donations is needed every day in Germany alone, and there is hardly any hospital, which does not suffer from a scarcity of blood. Blood is needed for victims of severe accidents, cancer patients, or people with blood disorders like sickle cell anemia. Some people need regular blood transfusions to live. For nearly five million people who receive blood transfusions every year, a donation can make the difference.
As an organization the German Red Cross is not allowed to make profits, which, of course, also holds true for blood donation activities.
