Jacobs University is suspending in-person teaching activities on their campus in Bremen starting Friday, 13 March 2020. The international university is transferring their teaching operations to electronic platforms by 23 March. The decision was reached after assessing the risk and high level of concerns relating to the spread of the coronavirus. The suspension is in place until 14 April with the option of extension if deemed necessary.

With regard to the ongoing global spread of the COVID-19, Jacobs University is following recommendations from different authorities and the Robert Koch Institute and is taking intensive measures to protect all students, staff members and guests.

The decision to suspend in-person teaching operations does not mean that academic activities are being curtailed. The university continues to be committed to completing the academic year as close to schedule as possible. Faculty members are transferring their teaching activities to electronic platforms by 23 March. The content of laboratory and language courses will be conveyed in a different format or at a later date.

Research activities, including those of graduate as well as bachelor thesis students are not being suspended.

Moreover, the university has all intentions of continuing to keep the residential colleges open, as the majority of the students have an ongoing need of accommodation and community support.

In reaching these decisions, the university’s management has sought to balance a realistic assessment of the level of risk, the fact of high levels of concern, their commitment to the students’ academic development, the students’ need for support during this period, and their overriding responsibility and concern for student and staff wellbeing.

As of today, there are no suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Jacobs University.
