Breaking Ice: Lessons in Entrepreneurship from Greenland

On October 19, 2023, we had the pleasure of hosting an inspiring alumni talk at our campus Sarah Winkelmann, Germany's youngest woman to conquer Greenland's challenging terrain, shared her remarkable journey of skiing 600 kilometers.

On May 28, 2023, Sarah Winkelmann completed an extraordinary 600-kilometer ski expedition across Greenland, braving minus 30-degree temperatures, icy storms, limited food rations, and a sled carrying up to 75 kilograms of gear. This journey, which took her 28 days, wasn’t just an adventure— it was a testament to her resilience and determination.

Sarah’s journey is also an inspiration for entrepreneurs. She shared how her mindset, life strategies for startups, and iterative approach helped her reach this incredible milestone. Her journey teaches us the importance of Vision, Discipline, and Preparation, showing how resilience in the face of challenges is key. It reminded us that we’re never too old to start and that an iterative approach is vital to entrepreneurial success.

“The sound of the skis on the snow, the vastness of the landscapes, the absence of civilization, the different types of snow formations: it was a journey full of experiences of the natural world.”

Sarah Winkelmann
