Upon its foundation, Jacobs University Bremen gGmbH was state-approved in accordance with §112(1) of the Higher Education Act of the City State of Bremen. Jacobs University Bremen has been successfully accredited in 2001 and 2008 by the German Council of Science and Humanities (Wissenschaftsrat). The accreditation by the German Council of Science and Humanities is based on quality benchmarks in research and education as well as certain financial and structural prerequisites.
