COVID-19 Summer at Jacobs

COVID-19 Summer at Jacobs

Summer 2020 has been peculiar all around the world and Jacobs was no exception. Due to the pandemic and the following travel restrictions implemented, many Jacobians opted to stay on campus during the summer. However, in despite of this, summer campus life was not at all disappointing. Many activities took place, making sure that the students enjoyed their stay according to safety standards. Two of the many activities that took place were the outdoor gym and the running club.

Tara Turkki (finland) | BSc Biochemistry and Cell Biology | class of 2021

I am one of the people in charge of the outdoor gym for the summer at Jacobs University. We have been open since the start of July. Being able to open the outdoor gym this summer was such a relief to me personally, not just because it is my job, but I also enjoy working out a lot myself and doing workouts just in my room had gotten a little stale. In addition to that, I think it is one of the small things that has brought back some sense of community on campus. It is also a great opportunity to spend more time outside and get into the routine of working out more consistently.

Paula Cendoya (argentina) | Bsc Medicinal chemistry and chemical biology | class of 2021

I am an active member in the Jacobs running club. During the summer, the running club continued with its famous Sunday Runs. Every week the club members meet in the evening for a short chill run, usually around 4 to 6 km. The club welcomes new people at Jacobs to join, even if they have never run before. Usually the running pace changes to accommodate the speed and performance of each member. The running routes are always different, thus giving the students a great opportunity to explore places in Bremen.
