As the weather grows colder and daylight becomes shorter, it might feel like there’s less fun to be had outside. Worry not! As long as you’ve got a good winter jacket and some gloves to keep you warm, December in Bremen is full of exciting events that you can enjoy if you’re really looking for some winter fun! Here are some suggestions for things to do around Bremen that are sure to get you in the Christmas spirit.
Ice-Skating:
Starting from the 1st of October, Bremen’s Paradice ice-skating rink is open until the 26th of March 2023. Ice-skating is definitely one of my favourite things to do with friends and it’s a fun way to get some movement in for the day, especially given how lazy the short winter days can make you feel. By no means should you ever think that you need to be an expert ice-skater to have fun at a rink. If anything, having a few fails is bound to make the experience more fun for you and your friends!
Paradice is located at Waller Heerstraße in Bremen Walle, and tickets cost 6 euros per person. The ice-skating rink is open at the following days and times:
- Tuesdays: 3pm – 6pm
- Wednesdays – Fridays: 4pm – 7pm
- Saturdays & Sundays: 11am – 6pm

Christas Markets:
Have a friend or a partner you’re thinking of getting a Christmas gift for? Looking to decorate your room for the winter season? Clueless about what to get for your secret Santa? Take a stroll down any of Bremen’s Christmas markets located around the Hauptbahnhof (central station), the city centre, or Schlachte, and check out what their stalls have to offer! Bremen’s Christmas market will be open from the 21st of November to the 23rd of December during the following hours:
- Mondays – Thursdays: 10am – 8.30pm
- Fridays & Saturdays: 10am – 9pm
- Sundays: 11am – 8.30pm

Winter fun in vegesack:
Take a quick bus from campus to Gerhard-Rohlfs-Straße and Breite Straße to enjoy a walk along Vegesack’s festively decorated main centre. There are many events that will take place here in Vegesack over the course of the Christmas period, so definitely check it out if you feel like taking a walk and enjoying our local atmosphere!

Findorff Winter village:
Not a big fan of large crowds and want to enjoy a smaller, more personal outdoor event? Visit the Winter Village located at the intersection of Fürther Straße and Hemmstraße. From the 10th of November until around late January or early February 2023, you can enjoy many types of Christmas food, Germany’s famous Glühwein (mulled wine), cute little wooden huts, and themed decorations in a more cozy atmosphere where you can really enjoy the outdoors and experience Bremen in its entirety. These are the opening hours:
- Mondays – Thursdays: 4pm – 10pm
- Fridays: 4pm – 11pm
- Saturdays: 3pm – 11pm
- Sundays: 3pm – 9.30pm
