RNA modification
 
The recent surge in the field of naturally occurring nucleic acid modifications has been promoted by exciting discoveries e.g. of new chemically sophisticated structures, of mRNA methylation, and of mechanisms of oxidative demethylation. In addition to established structure/function studies in tRNAs it has become increasingly clear that modifications with important biological functions are present all over genomes and transcriptomes, but biologists lack the means for discovery and larger scale analytics. To address these shortcomings, we are establishing a combination of ultrasensitive detection by LC-MS/MS, chemical reagents for the selective conjugation to modified nucleosides, and deep sequencing techniques.
