Title of the talk:

The Future (and the presen) of Genetically Modified Viruses in the Environment

An program that seeks to perform gene editing in fields of crops using GM viruses is ongoing. It is claimed that farmers would welcome the possibility to respond, in already planted crops, to drought, frost, flooding, herbicides, salinity, or disease.

The speed and flexibility of horizontally infectious techniques compared with vertically inherited techniques (includes all conventional transgenic approaches) mean that GM virus techniques are likely to continually attract interest for agricultural applications. There are however few scientists and policy makers with a broad overview of the scientific, societal and legal implications of the use of GM viruses.
