The Story of JGU: India's Aspirations to Build World Class Universities

The talk will reflect on the story of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) and its evolution through the larger context of India's aspirations to build world-class universities. It will outline some of the major challenges facing Indian universities, both historically and in contemporary times and how JGU attempted to address these challenges.
The talk will also address the role of universities in democracies and their larger contribution to building knowledge societies. It will also address the challenge of technology and its impact on the future of universities. The talk will juxtapose the establishment and evolution of JGU in the larger context of India's social, economic and demographic development, especially with regard to the aspirations of India's.
Prof. C. Raj Kumar
- Prof. Raj Kumar is the Founding Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University, which he helped establish in 2009 and has led to achieve top rankings and the status of "Institution of Eminence" in India.
- Professor Kumar has worked as a consultant for international organizations like the UN on human rights and governance, and is admitted to the Bar in Delhi and New York.
- He has authored over two hundred publications and several books, focusing on diverse legal issues including human rights, constitutional law, and education.
