After the Revolution: The role of Science fiction in the Soviet Films

The Russian Art & Culture Group, a group of scholars and young researchers from Eastern and Western Europe, will hold a workshop on Campus on September 22-23. Subject of the meeting are the intersections of Art, Science and Technology in Soviet Film and Culture. Prof. Dr. Tanja Zimmermann, Professor of the History of Art at the University of Leipzig, will give the keynote on “Science Fiction and the Combat against Misery in the Soviet Films”. After the October revolution in 1917 the genre of science fiction was gradually integrated into the Soviet value system. Visions of future progress and plenitude should combat the existing misery of the proletarian class. The program consists of different inputs from European scientists who will highlight interdisciplinary aspects within the discipline of history.
