It was awarded after a recent meeting of the admission scholarship committee based on Tin’s exceptional academic achievement, intellectual creativity, and the desire and motivation to make a difference in the world through social engagement. The competition for the scholarship was very high, with many promising students being shortlisted; however, Tin’s outstanding accomplishment stood out to the committee.
Tin – nicknamed Justin – has always been a very inquisitive and proactive student. In high school, he was admitted to a mathematics specialized class and quickly started questioning the learning methods he was exposed to; simply memorizing, instead of gaining a deeper understanding. When Justin took part in the simulation game “Model UN”, he particularly enjoyed looking at a problem from multiple perspectives. His involvement knew no bounds, hence, he put together a regionally-recognized MUN organizing team with the first non-invitational moot court for local high school and law students. Being a historical drama enthusiast, he explored one of the most controversial empresses in China’s history. Rather than giving a too specific description of him as a person, Justin is in favor of a fluid approach: “I believe that there is no rigid definition of oneself and that we could always learn from the discussion with others to understand more about our current self-version and grow day by day”.
We are certain that this young and eager talent will be great asset to both the multicultural community and interdisciplinary academic environment of Jacobs University. This scholarship is a solid foundation of future success.
