Constructor University racing team enters AI-powered Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL)
Constructor University racing team is set to enter the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL), with its first race taking place on April 27th. Under the unified banner of innovation, Constructor Technology and Constructor University are set to compete in one of the world’s most advanced autonomous races.
Previously, Constructor Autonomous participated and won the Roborace Racing Series. Now, it is making an entry in the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) on April 27th at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit. During this competition, the Constructor state-of-the-art AI model will go head-to-head against the top models in the world in one of the most prestigious autonomous racing events.
Organized by ASPIRE, the business development and program management arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), the A2RL Championship is a global platform for the advancement of autonomous vehicle technology. The championship convenes skilled teams of scientists, coders and developers from around the world to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into racing vehicles.
Constructor University President, Dr. Stanislav Protasov underpinned the importance of the University’s involvement in such a race: "Our collaboration with Constructor Technology in this championship is a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation in education and research. It provides our students and faculty with new opportunities to engage with cutting-edge AI technologies that will shape the future."
For the first time, all competing autonomous vehicles will race each other head-to-head on the racetrack. With autonomous racing, cars usually race against time, but within this championship all cars serve as obstacles for each other on the racetrack.
"This championship is the perfect arena to demonstrate our AI's capabilities,” mentioned Ilya Shimchik, Team Principal at Constructor. “We are here not only to compete — we are racing to innovate and enhance the safety and proficiency of autonomous driving technology.”
The Super Formula cars of each competing team are all exactly the same - Dallara SF23 and the rest are all equipped with the same sensor stack. The challenge for every competitor is to develop and fine-tune racing software that excels in control, path planning, and obstacle avoidance. Will the Constructor University Team come out on top? Results will be known this weekend on April 27th.
