The Future in our Hands: Jacobs University invites to digital Art Fest
April 12, 2021
On April 16 and 17, 2021, the campus of Jacobs University Bremen will once again be transformed into a forum for art. Around 200 artworks of all genres as well as music and theater performances will be on display at the Art Fest, which is being organized by the students of the international university on their own initiative. Guests can also participate in numerous workshops at the online event. Registration is requested.
The Future in our Hands is the event’s motto. "With this motto and with the help of art, we aim to bring attention to problems that will affect the future of all of us," said Gabriel Lamus. He is a member of the student organizing team, which consists of 40 international students. "Our team is united by a love for art, diversity and culture," added Gabriel, who studies Integrated Social Science at Jacobs University.
The exhibition is set up in the Sports and Convention Center on campus. It will be streamed directly into the visitors' living rooms. The exhibition does not only consist of artworks by students. Numerous artists from Bremen and the surrounding area have also participated with their own submissions. In addition, various workshops are offered – in the fields of photography, watercolor or calligraphy, among other things.
All artworks are divided into four categories: "The society we live in", "war and censorship", "dying earth" and "the final choice". Visitors will receive an introduction to each of these topics. "We look forward to presenting art in all its forms and sharing it with the people of Bremen.”
Every year since 2017, the Art Fest has opened its doors to more than 150 visitors. This year, however, the event will take place digitally via Zoom for the first time due to the coronavirus. "Registration is very simple and can also be done online," Gabriel explained. Interested visitors can register on the Art Fest's homepage. They will receive a link a few days before the event that leads directly to the virtual exhibition.
