Inspiring! The Teachers of the Year 2017

They are enthusiastic for the taught subject, create an enriching and inspiring learning environment, in class and beyond, and have a passion for teaching: Each year a university committee, based on nominations by students of Jacobs university, selects three instructors whose engagement in teaching was particularly appreciated by the students.
 
Among them is Dr. Julia Timpe, University Lecturer of Contemporary History in the focus area Diversity. She was selected for the Teacher of the Year Award 2017 because she is an “enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and kind instructor, who cares about her students and wants them to succeed not only in understanding the courses content but also throughout their academic career at Jacobs”. She was described as being “very authentic, honest and funny, who is dedicated to what she teaches”.
 
Sebastian Springer, Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the focus area Health, received the award for his commitment to help all students to tailor their Jacobs experience to be the very best it can be for each individual.” “His passion for the subject that he teaches and his ability to present that very passion to the students in each and every lecture” was highlighted in the nominations.
 
Herbert Jäger, Professor of Computational Science from the focus area Mobility, is the third prize winner. He was selected because of his “outstanding dedication and infectious passion to his field and each and every student of the CS major, for engaging lectures and a great personality”. He is a “truly inspiring person, being able to find the beauty in every day, topic and lecture, he “inspires, helps, motivates and guides students to bring out their best”. And a final quote: “Best teacher ever.”
