After about six years of successful management responsibility, President and Chairman of the Executive Board, Michael Hülsmann, is leaving Jacobs University at the turn of the year 2019/2020. Michael Hülsmann and the university’s Board of Governors agreed upon this at its regular meeting on Friday, August 30, 2019. The shareholders of Jacobs University thank Michael Hülsmann for his outstanding performance and acknowledge his central contribution to securing the future of Jacobs University.

Professor Dr. Michael Hülsmann has been working at Jacobs University for more than ten years. In March 2009, he was appointed Professor of Systems Management at the private, English-medium campus university. In June 2014, he was appointed Managing Director. At the beginning of 2018 he became President and Chairman of the Executive Board. In this function he has been responsible for all academic and non-academic areas of Jacobs University.

"Professor Michael Hülsmann has put Jacobs University with a lot of passion, great energy and assertiveness on a successful and future-oriented growth course, especially over the past two years in personal union as President and Chairman of the Executive Board," says Lavinia Jacobs, President of the Jacobs Foundation. "For this, we owe him our very special thanks and respect."

At its meeting on August 30, 2019, the Board of Governors of Jacobs University, chaired by Prof. Dr. Antonio Loprieno, decided to set up a selection committee. Under the leadership of Lavinia Jacobs, Vice-Chairwoman of the Board of Governors, the committee will seek a successor for the position of President. The aim of the appointed committee is to ensure that the position will be filled in a timely manner. Michael Hülsmann will accompany the transition in the upcoming months.

During the first phase of Jacobs University’s necessary, and consistently implemented transformation process, which took place from 2014 – 2017, Michael Hülsmann, as Managing Director, set up Jacobs University to be academically, strategically, organizationally and economically future-proof. Since the beginning of 2018, in the second phase, he has been enabling the successful growth course as well as a successful positioning in the higher education market.

Under the leadership of Michael Hülsmann, Jacobs University has been given a solid foundation on which it can continue its path of growth, which was agreed upon by all those involved.
