How to measure the speed of light? Is there a mechanism behind coincidences? And how does symmetry work? The meerMINT initiative on the campus of Constructor University in Bremen offers a new series of STEM workshops for school students. Registration is open until January 31, 2023.

“The fun of χ und φ” is the name of the new STEM workshop series, offered by the meerMINT initiative. The workshops are held by students of Constructor University and take place on the weekends between February 11 – 19, 2023 on the university campus, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The workshops are conducted in German or, if needed, in Ukrainian.

The four workshops can be taken separately from each other and suitable for school students from the age of ten with special interest in STEM subjects- science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Within the workshops, they are able to investigate and visualise various phenomena and facts from physics and mathematics with everyday objects.

How will they explore these topics? The half-life phenomenon will be tested on popcorn and sparkling drinks whilst seeking for the mechanism behind coincidence. Another workshop is focused on the speed of light – trying to measure it as well as exploring waves – a common phenomenon in nature.

Enthusiasts of tinkering and puzzles will be able to use their engineering skills to find solutions for seemingly unsolvable problems, as well as learning about different kinds of symmetry by doing origami, cutting paper snowflakes and playing with the Mobius strip.
