The Times Higher Education (THE) rankings are one of the leading global comparisons of universities. They are based on differentiated assessments in the five categories of teaching, research, citations, internationality and knowledge transfer. Jacobs University scored particularly well for its internationality and the excellence of its teaching within the current THE Young University Rankings. In the category of teaching, for example, it occupies an excellent 17th place in an international comparison, and in the category of internationality it reaches 23rd place. In the area of research, the young Jacobs University, which will celebrate its 20th birthday this year, is among the top 50 universities in the world (43rd place).

"We are proud of this recognition of our work," said Professor Thomas Auf der Heyde, Managing Director and Provost of Jacobs University. "The ranking is proof of the high attractiveness and quality of our study programs and the unchanged great commitment of all employees in research, teaching and administration. I would like to express my gratitude for this great team effort."

According to THE Young University Rankings 2021, the best young university is Nanyang Technological University, based in the city-state of Singapore. In Germany, the University of Duisburg-Essen leads the ranking. In third place after Jacobs University is the University of Potsdam.

In the global competition for the best talents, rankings are a key decision-making criterion, especially for international students. Only recently, Jacobs University also achieved top marks in the most important German university comparison, the CHE Ranking.
