July 2, 2020
Jacobs University has established itself as one of the world's best young universities. For the third year in a row, the private university performed excellently in the Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Ranking, one of the leading global university comparisons for universities younger than 50. In this year's ranking, Jacobs University took 33rd place out of 414 participating universities worldwide. In a Germany-wide comparison, it is among the four best young universities.
The ranking assesses the performance of a university according to 13 indicators from the categories research, teaching, international outlook, citations, and industry income.
The campus university in Bremen scored especially well regarding the excellence of its teaching and its internationality: In the categories "teaching" and "international outlook", it was ranked first place in Germany. In the categories "research" and "industry income", it came fifth and sixth.
The results are also excellent in a worldwide comparison: Here, the English-speaking institution took ninth place in the category "teaching". In the "research" and "international outlook" categories, the university, which started operations in higher education in 2001, is among the top 30 young universities in the world. "The outstanding national and international positioning of Jacobs University makes us very proud. It confirms our concept of an international campus university in Bremen with the highest standards in research and teaching," says Prof. Dr. Thomas Auf der Heyde, Provost of Jacobs University.
This year, more young universities than ever before took part in THE Young University Ranking. Especially for international students, worldwide rankings are often the deciding factor when choosing a place to study. This year, Jacobs University has again achieved top results in the CHE Ranking, the leading German university comparison, and in the international U-Multirank.
