Constructor University Mentoring Program
Constructor University Mentoring ProgramThe Alumni Office provides regular opportunities for alumni to give back to the university through different avenues including time, money, and expertise. One of the most fulfilling ways alumni can give-back is by connecting with a current student or a fellow alum through the Alumni Mentoring Program. Since launching in 2017, the program has connected over 700 alumni and students to share knowledge and assist one another with their career and post-graduation development. A new cohort starts every January with applications opening up in October, followed by matching in November and December. We currently over the following programs:
This 12-month program connects second-year students with an alum as they navigate the second half of their studies and approach graduation. Students have similar academic trajectories and milestones such as the annual Career Fair, searching for an internship, and the every-important step after graduation. You and your mentee will meet once per month to discuss topical and relevant issues.
Applications open every October, followed by a kick-off event in December. Each year, around 60-80 mentoring tandems are selected to participate.
This 12-month program connects alumni as we recognize that alumni can benefit from each other’s professional experience. As compared to the alumni/student program, the alumni/alumni mentoring relies more on the intrinsic motivation of the participants with discussion topics relative to each pair.
Additionally, the Alumni Office helps promotes other mentorship opportunities such as those through the Constructor Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center and partnering with outside organizations and companies.
Mentor/mentee tandems in both programs are selected based on factors such as common academic, professional, and personal interests. It is not an exact science, and we work hard to find complimentary matches while maximizing the number of pairs.
Over the years, mentoring has led to internships, job offers, co-authored research papers, and even startups. Many participants continue their connection long after the program — turning short-term guidance into lifelong professional friendships.
The impact of the program is reflected in the meaningful relationships formed between participants. For example, when Francesca Angeline Gabino (Class of 2025, Philippines) joined the program, she was paired with alumna Tanja Deisler (Class of 2010). What began as a structured mentoring relationship evolved into a genuine friendship, built on consistent guidance and mutual support. Their story demonstrates how the program fosters connections that extend far beyond the formal mentoring period.
Additionally, the Alumni Office helps promote other mentorship opportunities, including those offered through the Constructor Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center and partnerships with external organizations and companies.
The Alumni Office also collaborates with the Constructor Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center and other partners to promote additional mentoring and networking opportunities.
