Dream job doctor? Successfully studying medicine

,

February 3, 2017

The desire to study medicine remains unbroken, despite the high requirements upon applicants, who often fail to meet the difficult conditions for admission to a course of study in medicine. Only about every fifth applicant is admitted. But what challenges will future physicians have to face in a changing work world? And just how is it possible to make the jump from school to a university? At a weekend seminar from February 18th to 19th, 2017, Jacobs University in Bremen will be providing information on this topic.

"Being a doctor in the year 2030" is the motto of the seminar, which is aimed at secondary school graduates who are interested in the medical profession. In a workshop, scenarios regarding the tasks and possibilities for future physicians will be developed and their opportunities and risks will be discussed with professors at Jacobs University and with doctors. An important element of the weekend is also an application guide on the topic of what to watch for in an application to study medicine.

The bilingual Medical Preparatory Year (MedPrep) at the international Jacobs University improves the chances of getting one of the desirable spots studying medicine. The Preparatory Year prepares graduates for the respective admission tests and for the challenges of studying medicine. In cooperation with the Bremen hospital group Gesundheit Nord, MedPrep combines practical and theoretical aspects of the medical profession. Lectures in anatomy, biology, chemistry, and physics are part of the program, along with lab courses and internships. Participants in the weekend seminar can participate in a selection interview for direct admission to the Medical Preparatory Year.

The number of participants in the weekend seminar, which also entails a meeting with students at Jacobs University, is limited. The costs for the seminar, accommodations on campus, and meals are born by the organizer.
